Security and public screening at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Courthouse is in place to provide for the comfort and safety of the public, employees, and visitors.

Individuals are subject to screening by Security before they may enter the Courthouse or Court Buildings. We ask for your cooperation and patience during busy Court hours.

Prohibited Items

The following items are prohibited inside the Courthouse or on Court Property and include, but are not limited to:

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices:

  • Cell phones or pagers
  • Electronic devices including, but not limited to, laptops, iPads, tablets, or scanners
  • Cameras, video cameras, camera-capable devices, or recording-capable devices including, but not limited to, smart jewelry/accessories, smart watches, or smart eyewear

Weapons of any kind:

  • Firearms
  • Ammunition
  • Explosives or explosive devices
  • Stun guns or Tasers
  • Knives of any type or size
  • Knuckles or cat ears
  • Pepper spray, mace, or chemical gasses
  • Any sharp, metal instrument including, but not limited to, razors, blades, box cutters, nail files, scissors, letter openers, or forks
  • Bats, clubs, or Kubaton sticks

Other Prohibited Items:

  • Food or drink
  • Alcohol, Cannabis (in any form), or illegal drugs
  • Cigarettes, E-Cigarettes, or vaping devices
  • Matches, cigarette lighters or torch lighters
  • Handcuff keys
  • Any other device or object deemed a weapon or security risk by Security.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, the Metropolitan Court will make reasonable accommodations for qualified persons with a disability if a prohibited item is necessary for access to its programs, services, or activities.
