The mission of the Compliance & Close-Out Division is to provide efficient opportunities for defendants to comply with mandatory community service and/or receive credit toward fines and fees.

Community Service is labor, but it also benefits the public at large. It is an opportunity to help a governmental or non-profit agency with its work. The type of work can include everything from clerical to janitorial work to pulling weeds or building food pallets to help feed New Mexicans in need.

Defendants of Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court who are court-ordered to perform community service hours will select from a court-approved list of governmental or non-profit agencies.

Community Service can be performed (in addition to any mandatory hours of community service ordered by the Judge) as payment for fines and fees owed to the Court. Those who choose to complete Community Service instead will receive credit toward fines, fees, and costs at the rate of twice the State of New Mexico Minimum Wage Rate. Fines, fees, and costs an also be paid by completing both hours of community service and making payments in whatever combination and amounts, so long as the requirements have been completed/paid by the deadline set by the Court.
