U. S. Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham Visits Metro Court

02/17/2016

A group photoIn February, U. S. Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham visited Metro Court for a first-hand look at how two of the Court’s specialty court programs are changing lives in our community.  The Congresswoman sat in on a graduation ceremony from the Court’s DWI Recovery Court and Urban Native American Healing to Wellness Court.  Both Programs combat alcohol and drug addiction through strict supervision, counseling, and judicial oversight. The Programs have a reputation of being tough, but the results can be life-changing…with statistics showing that only 5.5% of those who successfully complete the programs re-offend.

The graduates shared their stories with the Congresswoman and a packed courtroom…talking about the challenges they faced early on in the program, the understanding of their addiction, the life tools they gained, and their new lease on life.

The Congresswoman then addressed the group; congratulating the graduates, encouraging those working their way through the programs, and talking how the positive effects of these programs can be felt all the way from Washington. The Congresswoman then addressed the group; congratulating the graduates, encouraging those working their way through the programs, and talking how the positive effects of these programs can be felt all the way from Washington.
