ALBUQUERQUE – The Metropolitan Court provided a one-stop shop for available resources in the community at a Resource Day event on May 22nd in the court’s outdoor courtyard.

The public event featured 48 local community service providers that offered everything from treatment options to employment resources to include; CARE Campus, Workforce Solutions, and Roadrunner Food Bank, to name a few. Those in attendance also heard from Treatment Court graduates, whose lives have been transformed by the treatment and support provided by the programs.

“Metro Court has been at the forefront of establishing successful and nationally-recognized Specialty Courts for 28 years now. During National Treatment Court Month, we want to celebrate those who have turned their lives around through these programs and recognize the community providers who play a crucial role in their recovery,” said Chief Judge Joshua J. Sánchez, who also presides over the Behavioral Health Court.

Six of the court’s 11 Specialty Courts are certified Treatment Courts that combine evidence-based treatment, like substance use disorder treatment and mental health services, with regular court supervision. The Treatment Courts work to enhance community safety, while promoting evidence–based practices for offender accountability to support offender rehabilitation.

National Treatment Court Month is coordinated by All Rise, the training, membership, and advocacy organization for justice system innovation addressing substance use and mental health at every intercept point. There are more than 4,000 treatment courts in the United States, annually serving more than 150,000 people. These programs provide an alternative to incarceration that effectively breaks the cycle of crime and addiction and improves lives, saves taxpayer dollars, and reunites families.
